De zesde editie van Speedfest die gisteren in het Eindhovense Klokgebouw werd gehouden, raakte  in de loop van de avond uitverkocht. Maar liefst 5000 bezoekers – een nieuw record voor Speedfest - uit alle windstreken van Nederland en ver daarbuiten trokken naar het jaarlijkse epicentrum van de harde rock om het festival bij te wonen.

Peter van Elderen, frontman van organisator Peter Pan Speedrock is ondanks een erg korte nacht gewoon weer aan het werk: ,,Yep, alle drie de bandleden zijn volop aan de slag. Ook de dag na Speedfest is er immers genoeg te doen.  Gelukkig hebben we een professionele crew die ervoor zorgt dat  Het Klokgebouw er morgen weer uitziet zoals vóór Speedfest. Alsof de 5000 feestbeesten die een geweldige avond hebben gehad er helemaal nooit  zijn geweest.”

Dus jij denkt veel van muziek te weten?

Ha! Of dat zo is kun je zaterdag wetenschappelijk testen. Dan vindt namelijk om 16.00 uur in de Foodcourt voor de eerste keer de Speedfest Rockquiz plaats. Het brein achter dit v(r)agevuur voormalig Mondo Bizarro zanger en voormalig Upmagazine-recensent Marcel Bizarro, uiteraard bekend van zijn boek 2012 Popquizvragen.

Er zijn toffe prijzen te winnen bij deze Quiz, waaronder Bizarro’s boek, waardoor je volgend jaar op Speedfest 7 nóg meer weet. De aanvang van de quiz is dus om 16.00 uur in de Foodcourt.

Three more days before the almighty Canadian überrockers Danko Jones will have a Blitzkrieg once again in Eindhoven Rockcity.

The loudest day of the year is near! The band that makes it all possible is in the saddle to spice up the festivities. Speedfest number 6 will celebrate the release of Peter Pan Speedrock’s double cd "FIFTYSOMESUPERHITS", a jam-packed compilation of the rare and the best from the first 15 years.

Moreover, their booker from day one is some sort of a numbers freak. According to his immaculate calculations, at Speedfest PPSR welcome their millionth visitor since their first show in 1996. One lucky bastard or bastardette is truly one in a million on the 10th of December. Dikke Dennis (a.k.a. Fat Dennis, PPSR’s Master of Ceremonies) will personally welcome the fortunate one with a grand prize: two VIP passes for Speedfest, the complete PPSR catalogue on CD, a signed copy of "FIFTYSOMESUPERHITS", two spots on the guest list for five Dutch PPSR shows in 2012 and a tattoo by Dikke Dennis himself.

For the thousands who can only wish for this free load of Speedrock, there’s some special consolation: "FIFTYSOMESUPERHITS" will be available at Speedfest for just twelve and a half euros, as a gesture from the band to their loyal fans. Got it? Get it!

Speedfest is set to go just over month from now and expectations are higher than ever, with phenomenal bands such as The Sonics, Pentagram, Danko Jones and Monster Magnet on the bill. No wonder things are buzzing at Peter Pan Speedrock headquarters. The three Lighttown rockers are busy as bees with the preparations of the loudest festival in the Lowlands. To top it all, meanwhile they’re assembling a brand spanking new album! Even better news: this platter is baptized at Speedfest.

The upcoming release will feature a standout selection of the giant body of work PPSR has built up since 1996. The title will be "Supersixtysomehits". That’s right, 59 speedrock gems, loaded on two cd’s, rephrasing the term double Dutch in the most radical way. This package of speedness shall be a cut-rate deal at Speedfest, so no worries about a lack of cash. In the coming weeks the complete tracklist will be disclosed on the homepages of PPSR and Speedfest. Keep an eye out for those online hot spots.

Peter Pan Speedrock-frontman Peter van Elderen is in een juichstemming: ,,Ja man, ik ben echt super opgetogen over de line-up! Geweldige bands, uitstekende muzikale mix, dat wordt nonstop genieten. De twee andere bandleden van Peter Pan Speedrock en ik willen altijd graag onze eigen favoriete bands op Speedfest, maar we zien tegelijk ook streng toe op een uitgebalanceerde mix van stijlen. (lachend:) Dat is inderdaad wel eens armpje drukken met drummer Bart en bassist Bartmann, maar we komen er altijd weer goed uit.”

Mystery Guest

En dan gonst er het gerucht over nóg een act op Speedfest, in de wandelgangen nu al ‘The Mystery Guest’ genoemd. ,,Ik kan er nog niet veel over vertellen totdat het allemaal rond is”, grinnikt Peter. ,,Ik denk wel dat veel Speedfest-bezoekers aangenaam verrast zullen zijn. Ik hoop er snel uitsluitsel over te kunnen geven. Ook leuk om nog te melden is dat Monster Magnet heeft toegezegd om zijn meesterwerk Dopes To Infinity integraal uit te voeren op Speedfest. Gaaf natuurlijk!”

The legendary garage punk rock ‘n roll band The Sonics will be playing Speedfest 6 this year!

Psycho’s, punkers, rockabilly’s en ander schorriemorrie opgelet: aanstaande zaterdag zal alweer de vierde editie van Coffin Carnival plaatsvinden! Plek des onheils zal wederom de kleine zaal van de Effenaar en café The Rambler zijn. Lekker op loopafstand dus, en dat in hartje Eindhoven. De line-up is op zijn minst Speedfestwaardig te noemen met The Monsters, Bang Bang Bazooka (Speedfest ’06), The Pharaohs, V8 Wankers (herinnert u zich Speedfest ’10 nog? Juist.), Sushi Express en Dead Cat Stimpy.

,,We moeten nog 94 keer Speedfest organiseren om er officieel ‘koninklijk’ voor te mogen zetten, maar voor mij is deze zesde editie dit jaar al van koninklijk niveau, grapt Peter Pan Speedrock-frontman Peter. ,,Maar effe serieus: met deze 13 bands zijn we er als organisatie wederom in geslaagd om een supergaaf programma neer te zetten. Veel van de bands die op Speedfest komen zie je op zich niet zo vaak – of in sommige gevallen wel helemaal nooit – in Nederland spelen. Dat maakt het festival uniek, samen met de bonte mengelmoes van harde muziekstijlen. Bijvoorbeeld metal naast psychobilly en oldschool punkrock naast rock ’n roll. En het mooiste is dat we binnenkort nóg een topband aan zullen kondigen. Ik kan haast niet wachten.”

Peter hoopt deze act zo snel mogelijk te kunnen onthullen zodat ook de voorverkoop van de tickets kan starten – waarschijnlijk begin volgende week. Wordt op zéér korte termijn vervolgd dus hou je digitale mailboxje en/of de Speedfest-site in de gaten!
